Unfortunately, most users of Ecstasy were sold a pig in a poke: 1/3 of all Ecstasy pills assayed in 2000 contained no MDMA at all, and much of the rest contained very little to moderate amounts of MDMA. The most common, and most dangerous, adulterant was DXM. It was DXM poisoning that sent so many ravers to the emergency room - and a few to the morgue. Re Eric Sterling: I'm not going to piss on his reform parade or his epiphany regarding drug prohibition: it's always hard to know another's heart. That said, it's not hard to size up an individual's persona and comportment. I wrote The Naked Truth About Drugs (endorsed by both Alexander Shulgin and Albert Hofmann), but Eric Sterling, after reading just a few pages, publicly took me to the woodshed, claiming my truth did not exist because he couldn't find it among "the many volumes" of drug information in his "extensive" library. Even after several third parties convinced Eric my facts were truthful, his reticence is apologizing (which he finally did, privately) was quite revealing.
